Estimating Systems and Procedures is the first in a two-part series intended specifically for building contractors, both new and existing, and persons other than professional quantity surveyors involved in building cost estimating.

This workshop introduces the delegate to building cost estimating by exploring estimating and measuring systems and how they are created, as well as taking a look at the building landscape and common risk factors that may influence the cost of a project.
It takes a sneak preview at the second part of the series (The A-Z of Building cost Resources) before it culminates in a live session where an estimating sheet is created from a set of plans provided.

In short, this workshop equips delegates with the tools and skills needed to identify cost elements in any building and thereby creating the best possible environment to accurately price and as a result, manage, a project to a profitable conclusion for both client and contractor.

Please join us in a non-formal and relaxed environment and let us start estimating for better control!

Six years since it first launched its new edition GCC contract, the GCC drafting committee launched its second edition early in June 2010. The GCC 2010 contract will be familiar to those used to the 2004 edition but includes some interesting innovations including:

•	The contract is suitable for use in disciplines other than civil engineering. The new contract is suitable for building works, civil engineering works and electrical and mechanical works. GCC has recognised that multidisciplinary projects are often best served by a multi-disciplinary contract;
•	The contract is suitable for employer designed and contractor designed works;
•	The contract has received the CIDB tick of approval and meets CIDB best practice requirements.
BCA envisages that the wider ambit of the new GCC will mean increased take up of this contract. Contractors and clients from the building environment who in the past would not have looked to GCC may now consider it for their building projects. Those looking for a local contract for multi-disciplinary projects will also look to the new GCC.

If you work in the building environment and have never considered GCC, now is the time to look to it as a sound local contract for building works.

This one day workshop is aimed at those who have had some experience in working with FIDIC or have attended other workshops on the FIDIC forms of contract. We will therefore focus on innovations introduced in the new contracts, on recent developments in interpretation of the FIDIC contracts and on higher level technical issues in the drafting of the contracts which have not been covered in previous Binnington Copeland seminars. In this workshop we focus on matters which may be missed on first reading of the contracts, but which could, if discovered later, create problems for one or both parties. Matters which commentators have brought to FIDIC’s attention as requiring revisiting in later editions are highlighted.

Construction claims…from hundreds of thousands to many millions of Rands to even the smallest of claims – they are in short time consuming and divert valuable and scarce resources away from where they are needed most and they are destructive to what may seem like even the most solid of business relationships.

In the ideal world a construction project can be completed without there ever being a claim and in many instances this is exactly what happens.

However this 2-day training course will teach you how to prepare, present and defend any construction claim.
